A Woman of Substance

 

For her I would have to invent a color–
I would take the pink from mauve,
The white from pink;
With a drop of caramel,
And a hint of gold;
I would use the cream from vanilla,
With a shot of peach.
That would take care
Of her skin and hair.
But for her eyes,
I would need a fine marble powder
Of lapis and malachite,
Blended with perfume and champagne.
